Position Summary
Execute a variety of accounting tasks and services in the preparation of the financial statements and financial audits for UNMC’s affiliate entities. Additionally, the role will participate in complex general accounting projects and assist the Manager of Affiliate & Component Unit Accounting in directing the financial accounting functions. These functions include establishing and maintaining ledgers, accounting principles, practices, internal controls, procedures, and adoption of new GASBs.

Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated leadership experience in accounting.
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles, including GAAP.
• Experience with general ledger entries and the month-end/year-end close process.
• Ability to identify and prioritize tasks, to carry out assignments from start to finish, to make independent judgments, and to function with minimal supervision.
• Ability to present technical information and training to all levels of UNMC community.
• Effective communication skills to work with external auditors, internal management, staff and leadership.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to read, interpret and explain GAAP, GASB, SAS, COSO, State regulations, Uniform Guidance, policies and procedures.
Preferred Education: Master's degree

Preferred Experience:
Financial Auditing experience with CPA firm or Government Agency.
Preferred License: Yes

Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills, accurate decision-making, and ability to perform calmly within limited time frames.

Experience with creating financial statements.
