A Brief Overview
Directs nursing practice within the Cardiac Service Line and has operational leadership in the Cardiac Care Unit, Cath Lab, and Cardiac Transplant Program.  Works in partnership with the Cardiac Service Line leadership and Division Chiefs to develop and communicate a shared vision, comprehensive strategic plan and priorities for the service line.  Works in collaboration with the Medical Directors of the Cardiac Care Unit, Cath Lab, and Cardiac Transplant Program to deliver high quality clinical care. Has accountability for budget, clinical, quality, service, and performance goals as well as strategic outcomes within the Cardiac Service Line. 

Essential Functions

Operational Management

  • Ensures coordinated and high quality care across the continuum
  • Integrates and standardizes nursing services for the cardiac service line across the organization including inpatient and outpatient departments
  • Directs and implements nursing practice across the cardiac service line
  • Directs and implements the nursing and service line strategic plan to align with Childrens Nebraska's strategic plan
  • Works in partnership with physician and service line leaders to plan, implement, and evaluate services to include a shared vision that is coordinated and innovative in program development
  • Represents Childrens Nebraska and promotes the nursing profession by participating in professional activities at the state, local, and national level through involvement in professional associations and organizations.  Participates in community service initiatives
  • Maximizes scope of service for nursing services; ensures all are utilizing the full extent of the scope of practice to provide the best patient care possible

 Cardiac Care Unit

  • Develop and oversee the Cardiac Care Units goals, standards, policies, procedures, and practice of clinical care; implementing and monitoring indicators of quality to ensure patient care outcomes that meet and/or exceed national standards
  • Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies, regulatory, and legal requirements
  • Collaborates with departmental leaders to plan, implement, and evaluate services
  • Promotes both internal and external customer service through the development and implementation of programs with standards that reflect that goal
  • Develops the annual budget for the operational or functional area including human resource needs.
  • Prepares budget variance reports and develops corrective strategies to meet the areas operational or financial plan.
  • Assure efficiencies in staffing and resource utilization by comparison with internal and external benchmarks as measured by productivity units appropriate for areas managed.
  • Coordinate and approve purchasing requisitions and oversee the monitoring of inventory for the department; review service and maintenance contracts.
  • Oversee, prepare, coordinate, evaluate and manage annual fiscal operating and capital equipment budgets for assigned areas, evaluate and manage operating revenue/expense variances monthly and prepare written reports.
  • Meet or exceed yearly goals for vacancy and turnover rate
  • Accountable for annual operating budget to meet yearly goals for contribution margin, percent variance from budget and overtime rate.
  • Oversight for responsible resource management within the cardiac care unit, cath lab, and cardiac transplant program.
        

   Financial Management

  • In collaboration with fellow cardiac service line leaders is accountable for capital request and management for service line
  • Provide oversight in the development and maintenance of systems to capture all charges.
  • Research and develop opportunities for revenue development for all services.
  • Develop methods for fiscal analysis, conduct financial and quantitative analysis and monitor existing or proposed programs and services
  • Collaborates with foundation leadership to develop and support fund raising opportunities, and to optimize any grant funding available to enhance the mission and vision of Childrens Nebraska within the service line

 Performance Management

  • Continually assess and improve the performance of care and services provided.
  • Uses business analytics to monitor and improve department effectiveness, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Assure continual readiness for regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure high level of customer service, including family centered initiatives.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of evidence based practice and quality efforts.
  • Monitor and ensure timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information.
  • Determine and enforce policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by the Medical centers mission and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Enforce compliance with Infection control policies and procedures.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing required and
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or business administration required
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited college or university in nursing is preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years experience in nursing required
  • Minimum of 1 year in a progressive leadership role is required
  • Experience in pediatric cardiology preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of systems theory and ability to apply it to operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups in a wide variety of settings.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills, do strategic planning and project management.
  • Ability to analyze operational systems and fiscal reports.
  • Skills in negotiation and problem solving.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Required and
  • NE-BC - Nurse Executive within 1 Year Required or
  • NEA-BC - Nurse Executive, Advanced within 1 Year Required
