A Brief Overview
Responsible for providing comprehensive virtual school health care to students in participating schools, offering services for acute care conditions as well as behavioral and wellness support. Provide education to patients and caregivers on virtual care plans and as appropriate, the management of health conditions including accessing supportive resources. Virtual school health services will be provided within the scope of practice for an advanced practice registered nurse within the specialty of pediatrics and in collaboration with the Medical Director for Community Health & Advocacy in accordance with Children's Nebraska's policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Within the scope of practice of an APRN, assesses patient, synthesizes and analyzes data, orders diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, and evaluates clinical outcomes.
- Completes an accurate virtual medical assessment of the pediatric patient.
- Synthesizes and analyzes data obtained through assessment to develop a comprehensive plan of care that is individualized and reflects patient care needs and includes interventions and treatments to attain expected outcomes.
- Implements plan by writing appropriate medical orders.
- Utilize virtual platforms and electronic health records (EHR) to document patient interactions.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and virtual care best practices.
- Prescribes therapeutic measures and medications according to the State of Nebraska APRN/NP Statutes, as approved in his/her individualized Scope of Service, according to Children Nebraskas policy.
- Prescribes therapeutic measures and medications, except controlled substances listed as Schedule II, related to health conditions within scope of practice.
- Follows up with any pending labs and notifies families with results.
- Manages all messages from patients/family/staff in a timely manner.
- Educates patients, and caregivers as appropriate, on managing health conditions and accessing resources.
- Communicates medical plan to caregivers, staff members and physicians as appropriate.
- Demonstrates understanding of caregiver dynamics involved in the ill pediatric patient.
- Serves as a reliable resource for school staff.
- Participates in professional development on virtual care and school health topics to ensure best-practices are maintained and utilized in practice.
- Conducts or utilizes research and new clinical information to recommend ways to improve virtual care.
- Participates in educational activities and networking related to virtual care.
- Seeks experiences and learning opportunities related to practice.
- Participates in professional organizations.
- Coordinates project or program development and effective implementationwith Medical Director and Manager of School Health.
Education Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing and completed an approved advanced practice registered nurse program in the specialty of pediatrics Required or
- Doctoral from an accredited college or university in nursing and completed an approved advanced practice registered nurse program in the specialty of pediatrics Required
Experience Qualifications
- Previous clinical experience in pediatrics Required
- Previous virtual care experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
- CPNP-PC - Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Primary Care from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board Upon Hire Required or

- BLS - Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
- DEA License within 30 Days Required
