JOB DESCRIPTION 

Do you love to help students grow as an individual? Educational Service Unit #3 (ESU #3) is seeking a collaborative and experienced leader to serve as Coordinator of the Greater Metro Regional Program (GMRP) within our Student Services Department. This professional, exempt position provides leadership and coordination for services and supports for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) across the region.

The GMRP Coordinator plays a key role in strengthening student opportunities, supporting families, and providing professional learning and technical assistance to educators and districts. This position also supervises specialized staff, manages program budgets and contracts, and represents regional and statewide Deaf and Hard of Hearing initiatives.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Deaf Education or Special Education preferred)
  • Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate or comparable licensure
  • Leadership experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Strong communication, organizational, budgeting, and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of Nebraska Rule 51 and Rule 52 related to DHH services preferred

Staff Supervised:  Educational Audiologist, Teachers of the Deaf, GMRP staff

Description:  The Greater Metro Regional Program Coordinator (GMRP) is responsible for providing leadership to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing student Community (DHH), including support of student activities, professional learning, and technical assistance to educators and families.  

Essential Requirements/Skills:

  1. Background: No history of child abuse or negligence, ability to successfully pass required background checks.   
  2. Education: BA/BS in Education or similar field required, preferably in Deaf Education or Special Education.  PreK-12 Educational Administration Endorsement or Masters Degree preferred, but not required.
  3. Certification: Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate or licensure in a similar field.
  4. Experience:  Leadership experience working with students who are DHH. Supervision or project management experience, including budgeting, preferred. Connections to the Deaf Community.
  5. Technical Skills:  Math/budgeting skills, computer/technology skills, language/communication skills, sign language skills, ability to interpret professional reports from Audiologists, ability to support professionals develop individualized plans to meet a student’s unique needs, as well as conflict resolution skills.    
  6. Schedule:  Flexible schedule to include regional activities, statewide activities, and professional development opportunities during some evening, weekend, and overnight hours as dictated by the activity, including a week-long camp in the summer.  
  7. Interpersonal Skills:  Ability to interact positively with students, parents, and professionals from multiple districts and agencies with a desire to improve and expand social and educational opportunities for students who are DHH.
  8. Knowledge:  Knowledge of Nebraska’s Special Education Rule 51 and Rule 52 requirements as related to DHH eligibility category and educational sign language interpreters
  9. Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to engage with abstract and concrete information.  Ability to make decisions in a timely manner, utilizing input from others as appropriate.    
  10. Attendance: Regular and dependable in person attendance is required and is considered a condition of employment. The assigned duties of this position may allow consideration of occasional/infrequent remote work with the approval of the supervisor. Remote work is subject to the remote work guidelines and conditions outlined in the job description. The supervisor may withdraw the remote work option at any time. 

Essential Responsibilities:  (Job Tasks)

  1. Communicate effectively both in writing and in person with GMRP stakeholders, including vendors, professionals, students, and parents.  
  2. Plan, coordinate and implement ongoing student activities for the Nebraska Regional Programs at the regional and statewide levels.
  3. Maintain a database of students/families and professionals that support the education of students who are DHH for the GMRP and regularly distribute information about GMRP activities and professional learning.  
  4. Facilitate professional learning opportunities for professionals that support the education of students who are DHH. 
  5. Develop and manage the contract and budget for the GMRP, including preparation of fiscal related reports.
  6. Supervise and support the professional growth of the Educational Audiologist, Teachers of the Deaf, GMRP staff and others as assigned by the Executive Director.   
  7. Implement Nebraska’s plan: Statewide Educational Programs and Support Services for Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing Guidance Document December 2020
  8. Represent Nebraska’s Regional Programs and/or GMRP at professional and agency meetings, Nebraska Department of Education meetings, and other ESU meetings and events.  
  9. Provide technical support with regard to assistive technology and equipment for DHH, including support for districts in determining appropriate equipment.  
  10. Attend professional conferences to stay current in education and equipment needs for DHH
  11. Keep school districts informed of GMRP activities through regular communication via newsletter, keeping the website current, and by hosting GMRP Advisory meetings.  
  12. Provide outreach to support districts in understanding the needs of students in their districts.
  13. Interview (or assist with the interview process) educational sign language interpreters for districts. 
  14. Administer the EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) to potential educational sign language interpreters.  
  15. Understand and comply with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.
  16. Regularly access the email system for review of materials distributed from ESU 3 and GMRP stakeholders. 
  17. Provide own transportation to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, including travel to multiple site locations.
  18. Hold a valid driver’s license.  
  19. Other duties as assigned.
