Foreman Grounds Maintenance

Oversees and supervises grounds maintenance crews and projects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Oversees and supervises landscaping staff and activities.

  • Determines appropriate work procedures and prepares work schedules; assigns work schedules.

  • Coordinates project activities with other foremen, outside contractors, and vendors.

  • Evaluates completed work to ensure that it conforms to proper procedures and quality and safety standards.

  • Hires, trains, and evaluates staff.

  • Gathers information and prices for the purchase of new plants and equipment.

  • Ensures grounds and equipment are properly maintained.

  • Operates and directs the operation of heavy to light equipment in the completion of grounds maintenance and snow and ice control on the campus; maintains safety supplies and equipment.

  • Performs and oversees equipment repair and makes recommendations for replacements in a timely manner to facilitate budget inputs; oversees the fabrication and modification of existing equipment and requisitions equipment parts and materials needed to complete projects.

  • Establishes and maintains maintenance standards for all landscaped areas.

  • Supervises and directs arboriculture activities including landscaping, hazard tree removals, and general tree trimming, planting, staking, and watering.

  • Performs or ensures the completion of livestock chores.

  • Identifies the need for and applies, maintains, and properly disposes of chemical pesticide.

  • Drives Boys Town vehicles as needed to complete duties of the job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of a broad range of landscaping practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and safety procedures. Knowledge of an extensive variety of regional plant life.

  • Leads a team of associates and to organize tasks for completion.

  • Communicates with individuals in an articulate, professional manner and to build and sustain successful, professional relationships.

  • Skills in installation and maintenance of landscaping plants and materials.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in grounds maintenance or agriculture required.

  • On-call (continuously or rotationally) to provide support. Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed required.

  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.

  • State of Nebraska certified pesticide and herbicide applicator license required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Moderate to very heavy physical work, occasionally having to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and in excess of 100 pounds with assistance. Walking, standing, reaching, bending, digging, and may be required to work at heights of 10 feet or more.The worker is subject to both indoor and outdoor conditions in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees for extended periods of time. Exposure to livestock, dust, allergens, noise, pesticides, and herbicides.
