This position reports to: Director of Rainbow Bridge                                                                     

Purpose of Position: To provide transportation of deceased animals from veterinary clinics to the respectful cremation services at NHS.  Delivery of pets’ ashes back to area veterinary clinics with care and compassion.  We are looking for a qualified individual who is dedicated to treating all animals with respect and dignity. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Comfortable and confident with driving the company mid –size van to veterinary locations in the Omaha/Iowa areas.
  • Transport deceased pets from area veterinary clinics to the Nebraska Humane Society for cremation service.
  • Schedule transport of deceased pets with area veterinary clinics.
  • Assist in packaging and preparing ashes for delivery back to area participating veterinary clinics.
  • Provide quality customer service and interact professionally and compassionately with local veterinary staff as well as the public while in the Field.
  • Complete an inventory of pets received upon arrival at NHS, checking paperwork and maintaining logs of transported deceased animals accurately and in a timely manner.

Position Qualifications: Education, Experience, Certification, and Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Required     

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. 
  • Must have a good knowledge of city streets - including Douglas and Sarpy County and the surrounding Iowa area.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and compassionately. 
  • Must be detailed-oriented.
  • Must be able to work cordially, safely, and efficiently in fast-paced, stressful conditions.
  • Maturity, good judgment, professional manner, and professional appearance
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles as necessary.
  • Must adhere to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Customer service experience.

Desired     

  • Experience in a veterinary clinic, animal welfare field or pet crematory/funeral home preferred but not required.

Work Conditions:

  • Minimum 30 hours per week.
  • The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet, though barking or whining of animals may be escalated at certain times in certain areas of the building. In addition, some noise from near crematory machinery is heard.
  • Temperatures in the shelter environment and in the Field are varied, though usually moderate, and dependent on the season. 
  • Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases and hazardous chemicals.
